Soccer senior night might be over, but the season isn’t for the Lady Hawks. After beating North Lamar in their last game on March 11, the team finished as the number one seed in the playoffs in the small division and third overall in district play.
“I was definitely nervous going into the game because it determined our standing in district, but I also had my head held high because I knew we could win,” captain, senior Addisyn Gildon said.
The Lady Hawks will face Athens in the first round playoffs next Thursday at Pine tree High School.
“I think that we have a good chance, we just need to be in the right state of mind,” captain, senior Lauren Walker said.” I’m not too worried about them though. We just have to execute.”
Through the countless hours of practice, games, and bus rides the seniors quickly learned it’s more than just what the scoreboard says when the final whistle blows.
“Do not stress too much over it. It could be hard at first but the team is really supportive, so it all works out,” Lauren said. “This season started rough but I’ve learned it’s more about all the memories I have made.”
Lauren said soccer has impacted her life in a positive way.
“It’s been a good getaway for me since tennis was so serious all the time, soccer was an outlet, and the group of girls has been really good,” Lauren said.
Over the years, the seniors have been faced with adversity and obstacles.
“My advice would be to have a good mental and positive attitude, because it’s tough,” Addisyn said. “ I mean, you’re gonna be doing lots of running, fitness, and training, like you have to be mentally prepared to come and do what you have to do”
For the seniors, making the playoffs was an expectation as they’ve advanced every year of their high school career.
“It’s my life, really. I mean, I started when I was four, and just grew up with it, and I love playing the game,” Addisyn said. “It’s tough not knowing when my last game is going to be, now that we’re in the playoffs. I’m going to be upset when it’s over, but it’s been a good journey.”
