What is the next biggest step for you after graduation?
Most of us would want to pursue a higher education, and we have already applied to our dream colleges. But what about after? This is a never-ending question. Whenever I go near relatives or friends they all ask questions like, “What are you doing after graduation?” or “Where are you going for college?” or “What are you taking as your major?” or “What about after college?”
As graduation is coming closer, the number of these questions are increasing as well. This is stressful. I have less time to get myself ready for college and think about what I can do and what I want to do, especially with school on-going and having tests/quizzes every week. And some of us are going to colleges outside of Texarkana or even outside of Texas. If we want to take a tour we can miss classes, but after 4 absences we have to take the semester exams.
Most of us aren’t even sure about our majors. The human brain starts developing and maturing in the mid-to-late 20s, yet we have to make the decision on what major we want to choose. This is scary to me. What if I choose the wrong major?
What’s even scarier is when you have student loans, but then find out that you aren’t interested in your major. I would have wasted so much time and money on something I never liked. As graduation dates are coming closer the fear in me is growing, but there’s also excitement of going to college and meeting new people.
These are some normal feelings I think many students like me get to experience. As seniors, we are making a big decision on what our life after high school would look like. This is the next step, and we should think very carefully about this. We should take our time and make a good decision. And we shouldn’t stress about the things that might never happen and live today instead of stressing over tomorrow.
