The voices from the Spanish rooms no longer speak Spanish.
Instead, they speak theater and art. After years of not having enough storage space, art and theater have taken over the former Spanish classrooms when those were moved to the 100 hall, leaving them with plenty of space to make their ideas come to life.
After countless trips down the halls to the old art storage across from the cafeteria, art teacher Melissa Manning can now take a few steps down the hallway to room 600. With only having a limited amount of time in class the new classroom is very convenient.
“It wasn’t just the going down there… It was trying to find what we were looking for,” Mrs Manning said. “So then you get down there and you’re looking for five minutes, well, 10 minutes of a 45 minute class, that’s a good chunk of instructional time that we’re trying to protect.”
Time is not the only benefit but there is also a new opening for better photographs. The new designed art room is going to have several different lights, a variety of backdrops, and shelves for storage. These new improvements will create an organized workspace and provide for students to let their ideas bloom.
“It’s always been a tiny closet, but now that we have that room, we can set up the big backdrop,” senior Reese Gibbs said. “It’ll stay nice and clean without kids going through the closet and getting it dirty, so we’ll have better photography for our projects.”
Theater also gained a classroom giving them more space and new opportunities.
“This has allowed us to have some space to work on sewing costumes and mending costumes and that kind of thing. It goes along with the class that Miss Newton is teaching this year,” Theatre director Mrs. Beck said. “It gives us some space to breathe a little bit.”
