It’s 105 degrees outside, and the dust is flying through Hawk Drive. While the new field house is finished and in use, other new athletic facilities are under construction, including a new track, turf softball, and turf baseball fields.
Baseball head coach Riley Fincher is awaiting the completion of the new baseball field. The timeline shows it will be ready for the start of the 2025 baseball season.
“We are looking forward to everything getting finished. Once it’s done it’s going to be huge for our program and the fans,” Fincher said. “It is going to be a lot more convenient, the kids won’t have to leave campus anymore and waste extra time in transportation. Also, I think it’s great for the boys to see the field each day; they can take pride in their new facility.”
Assistant Athletic Director Amy Collvins said she thinks the new facility will benefit the community as well.
“Now with this new facility we will be able to start hosting events such as playoff games. Having the turf is huge for both teams, rain delays will be a lot less likely,” Collvins said. “Also, band will be able to benefit.”
With the new facilities, traffic is going to increase due to the number of out-of-town schools using the facilities. Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Josh Gibson is ready for the number of people the new facilities will bring in.
“We are going to be hosting tournaments and play off games because people are going to want to play at our newer facilities,” Coach Gibson said. “It will also bring in money for tournaments that we host year round.”
