Watermelon Supper — traditionally held the day before school starts — has been rescheduled. The date for the event has been set for Aug. 16.
The schedule was adjusted to allow participants in cheer, showstoppers and band extra time to rehearse ahead of the event. “Also, this date gives us a week during school to ramp up and remind students to come support our programs,” head coach Josh Gibson said.
The event features a pep-rally with watermelon available in the plaza afterward. This year, the supper is set to be held at Hawk Stadium instead of the competition gym to welcome more of the community.
“We will need a bigger venue and moving the event outside will fit our whole community,” Coach Gibson said. “Plus we get to show off our new jumbotron and sound system.”
This year’s supper will be held from 7:30-8:30 p.m. followed by the Black/Gold Scrimmage between junior varsity and varsity football players from 8:30-9:45 p.m. All high school athletic teams will be introduced, as well as middle school volleyball and football, and attendees are welcome to either stay and enjoy the scrimmage or leave after the supper.
