With all the fencing and the mud around the new cafeteria, it was obvious that something was under construction.
However, students may not have noticed something going up right behind the PAC. What was going up was the new theater scene shop, an addition to the theater facility. Construction of the building took over a year to be completed. The scene shop opens up a whole new room built specifically for stage production.
“It’s going to be a huge help because we can work in the new scene shop, and we can have our actors come out on stage and still be able to rehearse while not being in each other’s way,¨ technical theater teacher Eric Cox said.
While the space is mostly complete and operational, theater director Lisa Newton said they are still waiting for some of the appliances to be shipped. One of the new appliances is a washing machine and dryer to clean costumes
“It just took a while to get all the components done,” Mrs. Newton said.
They are also getting new machines that will help build sets. A miter saw is often used for woodworking; it makes precise cuts and different angles.
“The new compound miter saw allows us to have more versatility,” technical theater teacher Eric Cox said.
Students have already created the 13-foot extension going out from the front of the stage. This will allow the actors more room to perform on the stage during “Cinderella.” Actors can block scenes onstage and not be in the way of set construction.
“Just being able to open up a whole new room that’s specifically for building stage production is going to be a huge help,” Mr.Cox said.
