English teacher Amy Kemp has had a lot of experience answering questions in front of students – being a contestant on the game show was only slightly different. In June 2004 the show “Who wants to be a millionaire” aired with Mrs.Kemp as one of the contestants.
“Leading up to being in that chair is like standing in line for a roller coaster ride. You have studied up to make it right there, you are in line, you are standing there, then you’re there. Once they’re finished with your segment they just usher you out the door.” Mrs. Kemp said.
The show was a once in-a-lifetime experience that Mrs.Kemp had always dreamed of.
“I had tried to get on that show since day one. What you would have to do to get a call back is to call in and do a fast finger” Mrs, Kemp said. “You have to answer all the questions right and if you do you might get a call back.”
Mrs.Kemp was very close to giving up, but she decided to give it one more chance. It was one of her goals after all.
“This was the last time I was going to audition,” Mrs. Kemp said. “That Tuesday, my grandma called me, she said she got a postcard in the mail that said I was in the contestant pool so later that month I heard from the show and I flew out in November to tape the show.”
While the audition and filming process was extensive, Mrs.Kemp walked away with 8,000 dollars and a story to tell.
